Northern Leadership Program Now Accepting Applications for Cohort 8

Founded by Science North (managing partner), the City of Greater Sudbury, Laurentian University and Health Sciences North in 2012, The Northern Leadership Program (NLP), is designed with Northern Ontario in mind to build leadership skills specifically for high potential leaders in the region. Through a comprehensive leadership development program, NLP has graduated more than 150 people across Northern Ontario and is now accepting applications for the next cohort.

The only program of its kind in Northern Ontario, NLP offers participants the opportunity to develop their leadership skills over 10 months with other leaders across the region, who have different leadership levels and experiences. This creates a deeper learning experience and networks across the North that have long-lasting benefits.

NLP blends in-person and online formal learning with opportunities to implement new techniques in the workplace immediately along with personal assessments, mentorship, executive coaching and peer learning groups. With the learning spread out over several months, participants have the opportunity to implement new skills in the workplace the same day and see immediate results.

Quotes from past participants

Patrick Lafontaine, Direction des services aux étudiants et étudiantes, Collège Boréal “There is no single model or theory that applies to every situation. Participating in the Northern Leadership Program provided me with several models and tools to use in varying situations and gave me the confidence I needed to be a leader of leaders.”

Kati McCartney, President, FROSKR “NLP really helped open my eyes to the concepts of truly great leadership. To me leadership is not about hierarchy or title, it is about influencing and empowering others – whether on your own team or throughout your organization.”

David Milad, Engineering Manager, Rock-Tech “As a new manager, learning with people from different areas that had more experience and getting insights from guest speakers was valuable. I continue to use the change management skills all the time at work.”
